Project Highlights

Whilst a lot of Genova’s work is usually undertaken from the office, occasionally we are asked to become directly involved in the delivery projects. The following are some highlights over the years.

Point Fraser Shade Structures 2011.

This project involved the project management for procuring and constructing three unique shade structures at the City of Perth’s Point Fraser Childrens Playground on behalf of Syrinx Environmental.

Kwinana HIsmelt Deconstruction. 2011 through 2013.

Contracted through Onyx Projects, the Genova team were responsible for initially preparing feasibility studies, and a Closure Plan for Rio Tinto who on behalf of their HIsmelt JV, were tasked with arranging the safest and most economic way to deconstruct the Kwinana HIsmelt Iron Smelter Plant.  The plans and the strategies contained within the studies were subsequently approved for implementation upon which time the Genova team were engaged to oversee the task of deconstruction and hand back of the leased land to the WA Government.  The project was successfully completed in early 2014, ahead of schedule, below budget and with over 150,000 manhours expended with only 2 minor first aid injuries.  This project implemented a new process of planning and permitting which had been designed during the feasibility stages and which set a new standard for risk management and stakeholder participation.

West Angelas Village Expansion. 2013 through 2014

In collaboration with the Onyx team of engineers, Genova led the completion of feasibility phase and subsequent project management oversight of the expansion of the West Angelas Village which supports Rio Tinto’s mining operations in the area.  The village was considerably upgraded by doubling in size to accommodate 1800 persons as well as adding new modern facilities which included recreational, messing, and services infrastructure. This project was delivered on time and on budget.

Busselton Pedestrian Bridges. 2013 through 2014.

Genova were successful in a competitive tender to design and construct 3 pedestrian bridges for the City of Busselton.  These bridges were design by Australian Engineers utilising high grade British Standards steel. By fabricating off-shore and overseeing the quality assurance requirements in conjunction with internationally accredited third party QA consultants, the bridges were able to be supplied to the City at a very competitive price at a time when the local mining boom was driving fabrication costs up.  The bridges were erected and completed by local companies ensuring that regional small business benefited in delivering the majority of the contract cost component.

Charles Street Busway and Bus Bridge Project. 2016 through 2017

In conjunction and on behalf of York Civil, the Genova team led the tender and subsequent design and construction of the Charles Street Busway and Bus Bridge project. The Genova team performed key leadership roles in design, safety and overall project and construction management.  This project required the development of a 115m incrementally launched bridge and over 2kms of roadways as well as a 7,000 sqm bus layover. This complex project, much of which was in brownfields conditions in the heart of Perth, was successfully delivered within 14.5 months as well as within budget.  Importantly, the Main Roads WA safety, environmental, sustainability and community relations objectives were all met or exceeded.
