WHAT WE DO...

We offer a variety of services to our clients including

VALUE ENGINEERING

By drawing upon experience gained across a multitude of engineering projects, combined with strong technical knowledge and a little lateral thinking, the Genova team have successfully proposed solutions to many project challenges. This may be cost, environmental, safety or use related but ultimately the benefits significantly outweigh the cost.

FEASIBILITY & CLOSURE STUDIES

As the beginning of project planning, feasibility studies cover a vast spectrum of topics such as schedule, cost, and external impacts. Risk analysis is always a core component of every study. Genova have undertaken several feasibility studies for resources and industrial projects clients with the study deliverable providing the map for project management when moving forward. Genova's specialty is Closure Studies involving demolition and restoration works.

DESIGN MANAGEMENT

The Genova team apply the combination of technical knowledge with practical construction experience to ensure that designs provided by Consultant partners are practical, offer value, developed in a timely manner and most importantly are conforming to the contracted obligations.  Through the years Genova has worked with most of the reputable Perth engineering consultants associated with civil and structural projects.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT & SUPPORT

Planning, correctly Implementing plans and Leadership is the PIL for Genova's project management approach. This has been successfully applied to projects of varying nature and size and is the core strength of the Genova Projects business.

COST ESTIMATION

Utilizing Pronamic's Expert software, Genova have over the years established a comprehensive cost database which can be applied to resources, civil infrastructure, structural and marine projects for cost estimation. As a company that is continually involved with live projects, pricing remains relevant and in line with current work practices.

PLANNING

Planning has two aspects. The first is the forward preparation of project plans and the second is activity planning through scheduling. The Genova team do both well, and for the later utilize Primavera P6 to develop comprehensive schedules for managing and tracking activities, resources and cost. With the team members having significant past project experience, the developed schedules are relevant and realistic.

TEMPORARY WORKS DESIGN

Another area of specialisation is our capability of designing formwork and construction systems which are efficient and productive. The Genova team have designed multiple column, foundation and incremental launch bridge moulds using 3D software and have devised economic systems for constructing traffic barriers and even undertaking construction below water with minimal dewatering

PROBLEM SOLVING

By drawing upon our deep experience in multifaceted construction and demolition areas, coupled with the capabilities described here,  the Genova team have a large tool kit to draw knowledge from and are able to choose solutions that are safe and economical. Problem solving is our passion and our greatest reward is seeing an innovative solution providing our Clients the value they seek.

TESTIMONIES...

What are our clients are saying about us?

Charles St Bus Bridge and Busway Project

"The Genova team assisted York Civil with the tender and provided some design alternatives that helped York with a price edge. Following the successful project award to York Civil, the team of Dirk Baumgartel, Brian Halberg and Scott Webster undertook key management roles which assisted York in successfully delivering the project for Main Roads WA"

Dallas Keene
State Manager - York Civil

West Angelas Village Expansion

“I would like to preface this testimonial by saying that I would not hesitate in employing Dirk Baumgartel in a Project Manager or Construction Manager role: I found Dirk to be diligent, understanding of the Client requirements and mindful of the Contractors needs. Dirk came to my attention when I was project Manager for RTIO Project Engineering, working on the West Angelas Village Expansion project. Prior to this I had been made aware of Dirks accomplishments from a very close colleague of mine at RTIO, who had worked alongside Dirk on the HIsmelt Project for some considerable time. For the West Angelas Village Expansion project, I had contracted Onyx Projects as the EPCM for the construction phase and Dirk was installed as their Project Manager. Early on on the construction phase it became apparent the project would be under considerable strain to remain under budget, stay on time and deliver the scope the client expected. It took a determined effort by Dirk, leading his team to break down the project contracting strategy and taking more risk in-house to keep the costs down. The upshot of the process was that project was delivered with all scope items completed and with budget not being exceeded. Most importantly for me, all parties were still on speaking terms. When it came to day to day dealings with the Contractors, I found Dirk to be firm, fair and always reasonable. In our daily discussions I was always made aware of the interests of the Contractors and we were mindful not to place them under stress as the project would suffer for it. Dirks ability to negotiate with both Company and Contractors was the key to making the project a success: the project had started construction from a position where the Company was faced with a project forecasting 33% over the approved ±10% CAPEX budget and finished on budget.”

– Mick Kestel, Operations Manager
OTOC Australia

HIsmelt Decommissioning Project

“I have worked with both Dirk Baumgartel and Brian Halberg over the past 18 months on the HIsmelt Decommissioning Project. As part of the client team, I quickly felt confident with the teams proactive health and safety focus, their engineering and technical expertise, their comprehensive level of planning and their demonstrated early ongoing engagement strategies. Both Dirk and Brian work with an open leadership style which created a team environment of trust, yet still ensured project personnel at all levels of the group felt encouraged to challenge work methodologies and safety controls. The systematic project management processes have assisted to minimise project complacency and have led to the success of the project. This project has been like no other that I have been involved in and as with any successful team it is the ‘sum of all parts,’ and I congratulate Dirk and his team for establishing and sustaining this culture throughout the duration of the project.”

– Darren Jones, Health & Safety Specialist (Deputy Registered Manager)
Rio Tinto.

HIsmelt Decommissioning Project

“The team from Genova Projects (through Onyx) partnered with HIsmelt Operations to deliver the highly successful demolition and closure of the Rio Tinto HIsmelt iron-ore smelting plant. They were part of the team that developed the scope, the contract, the selection of the specialist demotion contractor and then delivered project management. The Zero Harm safety success of the project was delivered through their development and application of Work Method Statements and their willingness to be active leaders of the ‘single’ team approach that focused on setting up everyone for success. Dirk Baumgartel projected the attitude, with action, of identifying and adding value for the customer. The project was completed on time, under budget and with Zero Harm.”

– Chris McQuade, Manager of operations and closure
Rio Tinto
